DO GOOD SCOOP...
OPEN DOORS OUTDOORS SEEKING DONATIONS TO HELP THEIR VETERANS
Davey Edwards's story of how he started Open Doors Outdoors is nothing short of inspiring. In his 20's during a training exercise, Davey witnessed a fellow marine have a heart attack and die in front of him. He tried to save him, but it was too late. Years later, he realized he was suffering from PTSD. Around that same time, he was going through a divorce with three small kids and struggling financially. He realized one of the best things he could do with his kids was go for hikes (they were free fun for the kids and free therapy for him). It dawned on him that other vets or men in general might be experiencing the same thing. That's when Open Doors Outdoors was born. The organization takes veterans and their families into the outdoors for reconnection, healthy activity, and healing. Oftentimes, they are in need of transportation. Davey is working to purchase a van that will bring hikers to and from locations. They are currently seeking donations to make this happen!
