HERE’S THE SCOOP…
PILATES CHAIN COMING TO WHOLE FOODS PLAZA
Club Pilates is going into the vacant space between Foxy Pizza and The Eyeglass Place. The fitness chain, which started in San Diego 12 years ago, has hundreds of locations across the U.S. and Canada. Their classes are Reformer-based, but integrate modern practices. The Glastonbury location is expected to open by the end of this year. We included some pictures from their site and a look at the exterior of one of their locations below.
NEW RESTAURANT COMING TO VACANT RAFFA’S LOT
A developer is looking to build a new restaurant in the empty lot next to Bruegger’s Bagels on Main Street. There is a proposal for a more than 3-thousand square foot restaurant with almost 200 seats. There will be indoor and outdoor dining. This is the former location of the once-popular Raffa’s.
DEVELOPMENT PLANS FOR HORSE FARM ON BELL STREET
A new neighborhood is proposed for Hillside Stable on Bell Street. Developers have submitted plans for a 29-lot housing development. We mentioned several months ago that the land was being surveyed for this reason. Over the years, many different developers have looked at the land, but nothing has come to fruition. It’s a peaceful, tucked-away setting with beautiful views. Check out the layout of the proposed “Stallion Ridge” neighborhood below.
NEW MANAGEMENT FOR MINNECHAUG GOLF COURSE
A new management company will take over Minnechaug Golf Course. Guilmette Golf, run by brothers, Chris and Matt Guilmette, will manage the property. Chris lives in town and told us they’ll maintain and grow what Glastonbury Hills Country Club did for the course. Guilmette Golf played an integral part in transforming Keney Park Golf Course in Hartford. Have you been there recently? It was rated as the #2 best place to play golf in Connecticut by Golf Week in 2018. Impressive! We can’t wait to see what they do for Minnechaug! The last picture below is a gorgeous shot of Keney Park Golf Course.
OLD CHURCH ON HEBRON AVENUE TO BE RENOVATED
The vacant church on Hebron Avenue across from Rose’s Berry Farm stand is being purchased by the owners of Educational Playcare. They plan to renovate the church and offer before and after school programs as well as summer camp programs for elementary school kids. Their Glastonbury location is located directly next to the church. They also have 18 other locations throughout the state.
SMITH BROTHERS FUNDRAISER INVOLVES KIDS HELPING OTHER KIDS
Do you know about Kids 4 Kids? If you don’t, listen up! It’s an amazing way to get your kids involved in giving back to the community…because…isn’t that what life is all about? Seven years ago, Smith Brothers President and CEO, Joe Smith and Kieran Callahan, co-founded this charity basketball tournament to instill the value of philanthropy and community in kids. Here’s how it works…kids coordinate (with help from parents), a team of 3 to 5 players, come up with a team name and their own shirts. On Sunday, March 17th, they play against each other by grade level. For more information about this worthwhile cause, go to www.kidsforkidsct.com.
ODDS AND ENDS…
*Heather Budinscak from Position First Pilates is offering several unique, new workshops about cooking and eating for your health. The first, Eating for Awesome Energy, will be March 28th and includes information about building and sustaining energy levels with specific foods. There will also be six recipe samplings. *The Hartford Business Journal reports that Pratt Street in Hartford will be blocked off and turn into a giant craft brew pub for March Madness! How fun does that sound? It will take place March 21st and March 23rd from 12:00 to 9:00 PM. City Steam, Hanging Hills, Thomas Hooker, and Hog River breweries will all take part.
*FEATURED SCOOP: Did you see our last feature with The Social Blueprint? It’s such a unique concept…we loved sharing it!
