AGAINST THE GRAIN FITNESS…SNEAK PEEK AT FOOD FROM SQUARE PEG PIZZA

HERE’S THE SCOOP…

FEATURED SCOOP: AGAINST THE GRAIN FITNESS

Brian Cusano has an easy, kind way about him. The owner of Against the Grain Fitness, inside Designed Training on Oakwood Drive, has more than 10 years of experience in the health and fitness field. After working for different types of exercise facilities, he decided to go out on his own. He offers personal and group training and a youth fitness program. His youth program helps athletes learn proper movement, how to jump and land correctly, change direction, and eventually get stronger and faster. Brian’s priority is safety and it shows…his motto is literally DO NO HARM. When clients have an injury, he helps them heal and recover through their workouts. His personal training is actually quite affordable and he’s not intimidating, but rather, extremely personable. He offers a FREE assessment and three personal training sessions for $99. Find him HERE or drop in for one of his group fitness classes ($12) Monday and Friday mornings at 6:00 AM.

SQUARE PEG PIZZA RESTAURANT WILL OFFER MORE THAN PIZZA

We had such a great time at the Square Peg Pizza & Arcade pop-up at Porron & Pina in Hartford last week. Celeb chefs, Tyler Anderson and Bruce Kalman, showcased the food they’ll offer at their new Glastonbury pizza shop in the former Piatti on Hebron Avenue. We tasted salad, meatballs, a chicken parm sandwich, pizza, potatoes, and collard greens, along with dessert. All were delicious. We tried to get out of them which vintage video games they will offer, but we didn’t have much luck! Renovations will begin in the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned for an exact opening date.

POP UP SWEATER SHOP OFFERS HIGH GRADE CASHMERE FOR LESS

Julia Thomas Sweaters has temporarily taken over the space of the former Coldwater Creek in Somerset. The cashmere and baby alpaca sweaters are designed and created by 23-year old Julia Thomas. It was fascinating to talk to her. She majored in business in college, but was frustrated that she could not find sweaters that were high-quality and figure flattering. So she designed them herself. Because her business is mostly direct to consumer, her 4-ply, Grade A cashmere is offered at nearly half the price of what you would pay in a regular store. And, the styles are so unique and festive! Stop in and tell her we sent you and she will give you 15% off…just for mentioning The Scoop Glastonbury! Check out some of what she offers below.

CELEBRITY GOWN DESIGNER LAUNCHES OWN LINE

Olivia Humphreys is wildly talented. She makes custom gowns that are so gorgeous, celebrities, like Gwen Stefani and Taylor Swift, have worn them. She recently moved to Glastonbury and is now out on her own after working for high-end labels like Marchesa and Jenny Packham. Her line of designs, under the name NOVA McLARENNOVA is the Roman name for Newport, her hometown in the UK…McLAREN is her mom’s maiden name…are breathtaking and SO affordable. Her custom wedding gowns range from $1,800 to $3,000. CUSTOM! ONE-OF-A-KIND! NO ONE ELSE WILL HAVE IT! Amazing, right?! Check out some of her work below.

GLASTONBURY MOM STARTS HOME STAGING BUSINESS

Fiona Kirk recently launched her own home staging business in town, aptly-named, Fiona Kirk Home Staging. The mom of two boys has always had a knack for organizing and arranging rooms to make them look beautiful. She loves meeting with homeowners and helping them arrange their homes for sale. It’s rewarding for her to see how her work makes a home look better or helps it sell. Find before and after photos HERE.
